Report: Oct 2: Team Bolivia visits Colegio Nacional Florida
Colegio Nacional Florida, founded 160 years ago, is the oldest secondary school in Santa Cruz. Nacional Florida will be the first public school in Santa Cruz to be connected to the Internet under the Minga Digital project, with installation projected for later this week.

Miriam Galido and Raúl OrozcoTeam Bolivia, Ron Swenson and Allan Baer, met with teachers Amanda M. de Gonzales, Miriam Galido and Raúl Orozco from the school to discuss the possibility of establishing a distance learning program for Porvenir. Not only did the teachers accept the idea of serving Porvenir by offering their facultly and curriculum resources, but the school offered to provide youth and student volunteers to accompany Team Bolivia to Porvenir in order to help with computer training and the supervision of youth. The Team will meet with the school principal tomorrow to discuss Florida´s possible involvement in greater detail.

While at Colegio Nacional de Florida, the Team had the opportunity to observe parent involvement in the school. It was common to see teachers working with both childern and parents on academic subjects, although it was obvious that the parents were less comfortable in the school setting. School uniforms---white shirt and pants or skirt---were a contrast to dress code in U.S. public schools.

More details to follow tomorrow after meeting with the principal...
